Hello, and welcome!

I've been meaning to start a blog for months, but silly things like laziness, broken limbs and the worst Internet connection in the western world have stopped me. I am obsessed with football and am always moaning to my pals that commentators and journalists are mentioning things I pointed out weeks ago. So I thought I'd lay my thoughts on the line.

So why now? Well, cheesy as it is , there is nothing like a good new year's resolution. Plus the January transfer window will give me lots to talk about. In particular, I look forward to seeing what happens to the Jermains (Defoe and Pennant), Real Madrid and Manchester City.

Can money buy you happiness? Or more specifically, can money buy you a 16th place finish in the Premier League or a fifth place finish in La Liga? Who knows. But there is no doubt that something ridiculous will happen in the next month or so.

Kicks for free has one talking point: football. Being English and in London my posts will have a Premier League and Champions League bias. But that is not my deliberate intention. It is an inevitability of the overexposure of those particular tournaments in England.

So what can you look forward to? Well, I am planning some posts on the demise of the direct free kick and how it can be revived, what football can learn from the NFL and why football is no longer for kids. I hope these sound interesting and I look forward to blogging for you soon.
